Links to Extend Learning at Home

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. We have a busy week ahead in 3rd grade. Please refer to the newsletter for upcoming tests and an overview of what we are learning in each subject.

As a reminder, Boosterthon pledge money is due Friday. You can pay by check in the envelope provided in your child’s folder or you can pay by credit card online where you submitted the pledges.

We have used a few resources so far this week to increase our learning in Science and Social Studies. This Blendspace was created by a fabulous fellow 3rd grade teacher. We viewed the first four slides today. Our SC Dailies Wk 4 – Monday question asked us about the South Carolina state seal. The students were provided this link in their google drive to learn more about it.

I invite you to view both at home to extend our classroom to home connection.

South Carolina Regions

There are so many great things about our amazing state. One is our various types of regions and landforms within our one small state!
In SC History we are learning the six regions of South Carolina. Next week the students will work in groups to research. become experts, and present to their peers facts on their region. Stay tuned to see these amazing presentations.
Here is a map of our six regions:

We sing this song to help us remember the regions in order:
South Carolina, South Carolina
has six regions, has Six regions.
Blueridge, Piedmont, Sandhills,
Inner, Outer Coastal Plains
and Coastal Zone and Coastal Zone.

In Science we will begin our Landform unit. You will be surprise at just how many landforms are in our great state! Stay tuned!

Place Value

We are in our Place Value unit. The crew is loving building the numbers with base-10 blocks! We have played several games. It is always exciting to add a competitive spin on things.

The students will write the numeral in several forms: Standard, Word, Expanded, and picture form.

Here is a cute little wrap song for Place Value.
*Please note- the song goes to decimals- we do not learn that in 3rd.*

Regions Vocabulary Review

We have our Region Vocabulary quiz scheduled for Thursday. Your child should have their Social Studies Journal in their book bags. They only need to focus on the vocabulary and identifying the 6 regions for the quiz (Do not focus on the specific details of each region for now).

Here are two helpful videos for vocabulary and regions review!

And here is our fun Regions song again!
